A female baby Western Lowland Gorilla called Ndoki has been born, the second for mother Ozala. Eighteen-year old father Ti unfortunately died of a stroke about three months ago. |

Three young female Amur (Siberian) Tigers, called Shouri, Soundari and Svelti, have arrived. They actually arrived from Mulhouse Zoo in France six months ago, but have now been released into their enclosure following completion of their quarantine period. The Amur Tiger is critically endangered in the wild, with only 200-300 left, and it is hoped that these youngsters will form a new breeding group as part of the European Breeding Programme. |

A pair of Red Fronted Macaws have arrived from Twycross Zoo. They are part of the European Breeding Programme for this endangered species, which is threatened by illegal trapping for the pet trade and widespread habitat loss and degradation. |

Two female Barbary Lion cubs, called Aswad and Buni, have been born, to parents Saffiya and Suliman. The Barbary Lion only exists in captivity; it has been extinct in the wild since the 1920s. The new babies are therefore important news for the global conservation programme. |

Sounda the 22 year old Western Lowland Gorilla and one of the original seven Gorillas brought from the Congo has sadly and suddenly died of peritonitis. This has left her one year old baby Oundi, who was still very dependant on her mother for protection and emotional support, alone, motherless, and extremely distressed. Keepers introduced another female and her offspring in the hope that they would bond with the baby, but were amazed when they spotted Oundi being carried about and protected by her five year old brother, Kouyou!
