Tsavo, the male Serval Cat has unfortunately died. He arrived at the zoo in January 1997, having been confiscated by the authorities from private ownership in Ireland. |

A baby female Steppe Eagle has arrived, to be hand reared by staff, which will encourage it to be confident in its surroundings and accustomed to the public. She should join the flying display team in about 10 weeks. |

A pair of Scottish Wildcats called Sid and Skye have arrived. They are one of Britain's rarest mammals, with only about 400 left in the wild. The original threat to their survival was persecution as a pest as a result of the establishment of gaming estates in the Victorian era. It has since been proved that game birds form only a very small part of their diet, and the biggest threat today is from hybridisation with domestic cats. Port Lympne will be coordinating the Stud Book for this new nationwide breeding programme. |

Twin Rocky Mountain Goat kids born, one male and one female, to mother Polar and father Merlin. The twins appeared to be healthy at birth, but the male did not grow as strongly or quickly as his sister, and unfortunately died on 24 May. It is believed that he died of Pneumonia, but post mortem results are not yet available. The keepers are now keeping a very close eye on the surviving female twin. |

Two Serval Cats, Lecutus and Shingi, both females, have been transferred to Marwell Zoo. Nine-year-old Shingi will be introduced to a male for breeding, while Lecutus, at 16, will be integrated into a non-breeding group. |

A young (1 year old) female Sloth called Galina has arrived from Zurich Zoo in Switzerland, where she was born as part of a European Breeding Programme. Although Sloths are not yet classified as Endangered, they are threatened by loss of habitat due to deforestation of their native rainforests. |

A pair of Red Titi monkeys arrived in February and have now settled into their enclosure: a 3-year old male called Richard from Sweden, and a 4-year old female called Anya from France. The species is native to the rainforests of Brazil and Peru. |
