Arrival: Newquay Zoo

A pair of Black and White Ruffed Lemurs have arrived, and are now out of quarantine. Wakka the female came from Paris Zoo, while Rikku the male came from Omega Park in Portugal. They actually arrived last December, and it is hoped they will soon breed to help the European Endangered Species Programme. |

Two Pygmy Marmoset babies have been born. Update: the babies have now been named Twiglet and Alfonso. |

Ronnie, a 19 year old male Chimpanzee has arrived from the Zoom Erlebniswelt Zoo in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. He will spend six months in quarantine and is getting on well with Freddie and Nakima, who are sharing his quarantine quarters. |

A baby male Rothschild Giraffe has been born to mother Imogen. Two years ago Imogen nearly died during an emergency caesarean section operation that was featured on the BBC Animal Park TV series. This time around she gave birth naturally during the night with no problems, bringing a surprise end to her keepers' anxious wait during her 15-month pregnancy. |

Three Great Grey Owl chicks, called Graffite, Slate and Glacier, have been born. |

Two White-Winged Wood Ducklings have hatched. The eggs were rescued from their parents' nests when the leepers realise that they were overdue, and then successfully hand-hatched. The species is Endangered due to habitat loss, and these chicks will be transferred to other zoos as part of the breeding programme when they reach adulthood. |

Three Barn Owl chicks have hatched. They are being partly hand reared to get them used to people, and they well eventually trained to join the Birds of Prey flying display. |

Five baby Marbled Polecats have been born, to parents Yuri and Petra. Unfortunately, first-time mum Petra suddenly stopped producing milk and three sadly died before this was noticed. The remaining two were then successfully hand-reared by their keeper. The male, Omari, has since moved to another zoo to take part in the breeding programme, while the female, Layla, remains at Tropical Wings, awaiting a mate. |

A young female African Lion has arrived, following rescue by authorities in Europe from a circus where she was being badly treated. |
