Paradise Park Details

Arrival: 22 June 2012

A one-year-old female Red Panda called Jai-Li has arrived from Copenhagen Zoo, Denmark. She will join resident male Lang Za in the hope that they will form a successful breeding pair, his previous partner having passed away last year of old age.

Birth: Winter 2012

Three Kea chicks have hatched, and are being hand-reared by keepers. Since they are from a different bloodline to those born last year, they will be placed with them to form new breeding pairs.

Death: Autumn 2011

Pandora the Red Panda has sadly passed away. She was born at Colchester Zoo in July 1997 and came to Paradise Park in 1998. Over the years she produced several cubs that have since gone to other zoos in the UK, and many have produced young of their own.

Arrival: September 2011

Four pairs of Mountain Parakeets have arrived, from a private breeder in Torbay.

Birth: July 2011

A second Great Blue Touraco chick has hatched, and is also being hand-reared. This one is male and has been named Ken.

Birth: June 2011

An Alexandrine Parakeet chick has hatched, and is now being hand-reared following the loss of two siblings that hatched at the same time. The parents usually raise their chicks successfully.

A second baby Miniature Mediterranean Donkey has been born, this time a female.

Arrival: May 2011

A pair of Southern Screamers (members of the same bird family as ducks and geese) have arrived.

A baby male Miniature Mediterranean Donkey has been born, to mum Jasmine.

Update (June): the baby has been named Sweet Pea.

Birth: April 2011

Five Kea chicks have hatched; two are being hand-reared by keepers, the other are being looked after by their parents. This is the first successful breeding of this species for 10 years.

Birth: February 2011

A Great Blue Touraco chick has hatched, and is being hand-reared by keepers, the first for the park.

Update (July): the chick is now known to be female, and has been named Barbie.

Arrival: October 2010

A pair of Hoopoe have arrived from zoos in Belgium.

Birth: September 2010

A White-crested Turaco chick has hatched. The parents have already bred successfully twice before since their arrival in 2009.

Birth: September 2010

Bessie the Berkshire Pig has given birth to 12 more piglets.

Birth: August 2010

A Fairy Bluebird chick has hatched, the first at the Park for many years.

Birth: July 2010

An African Crowned Crane chick has hatched, and is being hand-reared (off-show) by keepers.

Death: July 2010

Barnaby the Barn Owl has sadly died following a short illness. At 20 years old he had reached a good age, and had been a regular feature of the Free Flying Bird Show until he became ill.

Five Avocet chicks have hatched.

Arrival: May 2010

A pair of Von Der Decken's Hornbills have arrived from Germany. The resident pair have bred successfully for the last five years, so the German pair, which have so far not been successful, have been brought to Cornwall to see whether the environment is a factor.

The first of this year's Chough chicks has hatched.

Early spring births in the Fun Farm include Rabbits, two Bagot Goat kids and three Ouessant Sheep lambs. A Berkshire pig called Bessie an her eight piglets have also arrived, on loan from Chy-an-Besow farm.

A pair of Goldie's Lorikeets have arrived, and taken up residence in the Tropical House.

Arrival: Autumn 2007

Three pairs of Humboldt Penguins have arrived from Whipsnade Zoo, as part of the EEP breeding programme for this endangered species.

Paradise Parks has successfully bred a number of species this year, some for the first time:

Seriema, Red-tailed Black Cockatoo, von der Decken's Hornbill (3 chicks), Hunting Cissa (2 chicks), Swainson's Lorikeets, Purple Glossy Starlings, Red-Crested Touraco (4 chicks), Humboldt's Penguins, Alexandrine Parakeets, Hahn's Macaws, Roseate Cockatoos, Whit-faced Scops Owls, Alpaca (2 babies), Pygmy Goats, Bagot Goats (2 kids)
