A giant Capricorn Beetle has arrived, having been discovered at Shropshire Building Supplies and is thought to have come from Germany in an imported oak beam. The species, one of Europe's largest, was once native in the UK, but became extinct in the early 18th century. They are still found in central Europe but are becoming extremely rare. |

Upali, the bull Elephant, has moved to Dublin, to be replaced by a new male from Seville later this year. Since arriving in May '97, Upali has sired four calves. |

A baby Greater Bamboo Lemur has been born, to first-time mum Belle (Manantena) and dad Zig. Great news for this critically endangered species, with only around 500 left in the wild. |

A brood of 76 Mountain Chicken Frogs, from just two females, have hatched. Once fully grown they will be released back into a protected and disease-free area of the wild, on the Island of Montserrat in the Caribbean. Their parents were rescued and airlifted to London in order to develop a captive population of these critically endangered frogs that are threatened in the wild by the rapid spread of the Chytrid fungus, a disease fatal to most amphibians. |

Other recent births include a baby Golden Lion Tamarin, several Blue Poison Arrow Dart Frogs and Yellow-banded Dart Frogs, 8 Flamingo chicks, 45 Lovebirds, a Mindanao Bleeding Heart Dove, 4 Rainbow Lorikeets, and Azure-winged Magpie, 3 Keas, 3 Little Egrets, and 2 critically endangered Bali Starlings. |

A baby Ring-tailed Lemur has been born, to mum Roxy. The baby is still too young to have been sexed, and thus named, and can often be seen clinging to mum on the Lemur garden walk-through exhibit. |
