A pair of Spotted Hyena have arrived. The male, Abu, was born in 2005 and came from Amersfoort Zoo, The Netherlands, while the female, Kalabi, was born in 2008 and came from Berlin. It is hoped they will form a successful breeding pair, and are the only members of this species in the UK. |

Frank the Eurasian Lynx has sadly died peacefully in his sleep. At 21 years old has was believed to be the oldest captive-born member of his species in the UK. |

Ya Kwanza, Durrell's resident silverback male Gorilla is to be moved to an all-male group at La Vallee des Signes, France, in exchange for younger male called Badongo who was born there. This is because Ya Kwanza's breeding record has not been particularly successful, only mating with one of the resident females, and then with poor results. Update, 28 July: Badongo has now arrived safely, and the tricky process of introducing to the resident females has begun. |

Three Cheetah cubs, 2 females and a male, have been born, to parents Uria and Jack. These are the first offspring of this pairing, which was formed by Jack's arrival earlier this year. The cubs are likely to be kept in their den by their mother for the next few months, so will be difficult to see. Update, 19 October: the cubs have been named Milawi, the male, Tatu and Savannah, and are now venturing outside of their den. |

Green and Black Poison Dart Frogs have been born. Three batches of frogspawn have been collected, and the first have now almost fully developed from tadpoles into frogs; the first for the Zoo. They will reach full sexual maturity at about 6-15 months and typically live for about 2 years in the wild, but 6-25 years in captivity. |

A Caribbean Flamingo chick has hatched, and is being hand-reared following rejection by its parents. Fourteen others have also hatched and are being raised by their parents. |

A group of four Black and White Colobus have arrived from Port Lympne Wild Animal Park. Kasaka, the male, is 12 years old while Anuket, Heket and Bes, all females, are 4, 4, and 3, respectively. |

Two baby Northern Luzon Giant Cloud Rats have been born; the first born back in March has now been joined by a sibling. The parents arrived last year from the Rare Species Conservation Centre in Kent. |
