Two young (14 months) female Reticulated Giraffe, called Lily and Isha, have arrived from the Czech Republic. They are too young to breed, but have already joined the existing three males. They should also be joined by a third male in October. |

Oumbie a male Western Lowland Gorilla has arrived from Port Lympne Zoological Gardens, to join the existing two females Asante and Ozala, and young male Matadi. |

A pair of Reeve's Pheasants has arrived. This species is listed as Vulnerable due to habitat loss and over-hunting (both for food and its exceptionally long tail feathers), with only around 2000 left in the wild, but is fairly common in captivity. A female Temminck's Tragopan has also arrived, to join the existing male. |

Three Black Tree Monitor Lizards, all brothers, have arrived, making Newquay the only zoo in the UK to have the species. |

A litter of Brown Hyena cubs has been born, the first in the UK. Brown Hyenas are smaller and much rarer than their Spotted cousins; there are only about 10,000 left in the wild, and about 100 in captivity worldwide. |

Charlie, an 11-year old African Lion, has arrived from Longleat Safari Park. He will join his older sister Connie, who is now beyond breeding age. |

'Little Boy' the Indian Tiger, at 21 one of the Park's oldest residents, has sadly had to be put to sleep. He had been having difficulty moving around for some time, and this had become so severe that it was necessary to relieve his suffering. |

Baby Cotton-Top Tamarins have been born, to parents Kane and Medelin. Other recent births include Snowy Owls, Red-Bellied Lemurs and Parma Wallabies. |

Two young female White Rhinos have arrived, to join the Park's existing 4-strong herd. It is hoped that the introduction of new members will improve the herd's poor breeding record - it's thought that the herd, some of whom have been at the Park since it opened, had come to view each other as siblings rather than potential breeding partners. |
