A baby male Bactrian Camel has been born. Good news for this Critically Endangered species, with possibly less than 1,000 left in the wild. |

A group of Magellanic Penguins, including males and females of breeding age and jeuveniles, have arrived from Madrid Zoo and Selwo Wildlife park, Spain, to take up residence in the new Penguin Pool which is due to be officially opened in July. This marks the return of Penguins to Blackpool after an absence of over 12 years, and Blackpool is one of only 5 zoos in Europe to keep this species of Penguin. |

Two female baby Meerkats have been born and are being hand-reared by keepers after being abandoned by their mother. They will join the Animals in Action demonstrations once they are old enough. |

A pair of Brazilian Tapirs called Summer and Ronaldo have arrived, as part of the European Breeding Programme for this Vulnerable species. This makes a return to the zoo for the species after an absence of 10 years. |

Six Penguin chicks have been born. Update, July 4: two more chicks (twins) have hatched, making a total of eight, divided evenly between the two Penguin enclosures. The new chicks have been named Indie and Panda, while the other chicks have also been named: Chilly, Domino, Surf, Polka, Mojo and Inca. |

Three Wolves have been moved to Edinburgh Zoo. The remaining male has been joined by a female from the Scottish Deer Centre to form a new breeding pair. |

A number of primate babies have been born so far this year, including: a Saki Monkey, Colobus Monkey, Goeldi's Monkey, Emperor Tamarin, Golden Lion Tamarin, Golden Headed Lion Tamarin. Pygmy Marmoset, Geoffroy's Marmoset, and a Siamang Gibbon. Several other species have also produced babies, including Meerkats, Llamas, Goats, and Kangaroos.. |
