A male Tufted Deer fawn has been born, the first for parents Michelle and Mitch. The baby has been named Ying Xiong. Twycross is the only UK zoo to exhibit and now breed this rare species. |

A female baby Pygmy Hippopotamus called Leishan has been born to parents Ellen and Otto, and is their first. Great news for this critically endangered species, which is under threat from habitat loss and hunting. |

A two-year-old male Amur Leopard called Sayan has arrived from Mulhouse Zoo in France. He is currently on show in a temporary enclosure in the Aquatic Zone while he undergoes six month's quarantine. He will then be introduced to Milena, the resident female, in the hope that they will form a breeding pair. Amur Leopards are currently the rarest of the big cats, with just 35 left in the wild. There is, however, a healthy captive population, and it is hoped that some can be returned to the wild in the future. |

A Black Wildebeest calf has been born, to mum Malaga who was already pregnant when she arrived back in March. Two of the four arrivals also moved to Marwell Zoo in May to expand the breeding programme. |

A pair of Fishing Cats, called Ping (female) and Bing (male), have arrived from Port Lympne Wild Animal Park as part of the breeding programme for this endangered species. One of the largest of the lesser cats, they are unusual in having webbed paws, making them excellent swimmers. |

Maggie, a 2-year-old Red Panda has arrived from Curraghs Wildlife Park, Isle of Man. She was orphaned at 1 month old when her mother died of bone cancer and was then hand-reared by her keeper. She has come to Whipsnade as part of the European breeding programme, to be joined by a suitable male when one can be found. |
