Description

Birdworld bird park and gardens is located 3 miles south of Farnham, Surrey, and is open daily throughout the year, except Christmas and Boxing Day, although facilities are reduced midweek during the winter months. Birdworld is home to a wide variety of birds from all over the world, including penguins, pelicans, flamingos, ostriches, rheas, emus, various owls and other birds of prey, and a host of smaller birds. The aviaries and compounds housing these birds are set in 26 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens. Some of the aviaries allow visitors to walk through. A road train operates at intervals throughout the day to take visitors on a guided tour of the larger exhibits, complete with commentary from a keeper.

The penguins are fed twice daily, at 11:30am and 4:00pm. Visitors also have the opportunity to take part in the feeding, but must book in advance, since only one visitor per session can be involved, and an additional charge applies. See the official website for further details. Visitors can also accompany the keepers on their daily round to feed the birds of prey.

Regular shows are also held throughout the day at the Heron Theatre, where some of the young birds raised at Birdworld are used to demonstrate some of the natural tricks they would use in the wild.

A selection of other animals is also on display. Underwater World, adjacent to the main park entrance, provides a selection of aquaria to illustrate tropical streams, mangrove forests, tropical seas, and an alligator swamp. The Jenny Wren Farm within the main park features a variety of young farm animals and pets and is of particular interest to children. This Farm also hosts twice daily (at 12:20pm and 2:00pm, weather permitting) animal handling sessions, where visitors have the chance to stroke or even hold some of the young animals.

Several play areas are also available around the park for the kids to enjoy. Numerous benches and lawn areas throughout the park can be used for your own picnic, and a number of kiosks offer snacks and refreshments. One kiosk also offers pizza hot dogs and chips. A large restaurant overlooking the wildfowl pool and fountain provides a wide range of food, from snacks and cream teas to full meals.

Birdworld has good access for visitors with disabilities, with flat and level paths throughout, numerous resting places, and several disabled toilets. Wheelchairs are also available free of charge,
