Two female Californian Sealions are leaving to retire to Mundomar Marine and Exotic Animal Park in Benidorm, Spain. Pebbles (22) will leave on 30 Jan, and Ursa (15) will follow a few weeks later. |

ZSL has been awarded funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to save a rare species of ant from imminent extinction in England. The Red-barbed Ant is on the brink of extinction in mainland Britain; only 1 colony (all males!) is left, in Surrey, with a few more in the Isles of Scilly. A small number of ants is to be taken into captivity at London Zoo to be bred for release back into the wild. The aim is for at least 40 nests to be reintroduced each year, at several nature reserves in Surrey. |

A male Two-toed Sloth has arrived from the Cotswolds Wildlife Park. A female is expected to join him in a few months from Zurich Zoo, and a new enclosure is being built for them. |

A group of four Mongoose Lemurs, 3 males and 1 female, have arrived from Linton Zoo. They have been housed in an enclosure adjacent to the Zoo's existing pair, who have taken great interest in their new neighbours. It is hoped that this will encourage them to breed. |

A baby Aardvark was born to first time mum Oq. June 2007 update: Now named Magic, the pup is still doing well, and growing strongly. Good news for the European Breeding Programme for this endangered species, and only the second time an Aardvark pup has been born in the UK and survived - the first was also born at Colchester. |

The 17 Humboldt's Penguins have returned after a 3-week break at Paignton Zoo while their enclosure was refurbished. The re-landscaped enclosure now resembles a large sandy and rocky beach. A shaded area has been added and the pool has been repainted. |

A young female Bactrian Camel called `Scrummy' has arrived from the Welsh Mountain Zoo. She had been born there in February 2006. |

A male Bactrian Camel, Sid, has recently arrived from Blair Drummond Wildlife Park, to join the existing 4 adult females. These were also joined late last year by the birth of a baby female, Karamay, who has now been successfully re-integrated into the group after being hand reared by keepers following rejection by her mother. |
