Death: Paignton Zoo

Following a fire at the Giraffe / Elephant house, the female Girafe Kizi and her week-old baby have died from smoke inhalation. The male, Paddy, survived but is also suffering from the effects of the smoke. The two Elephants are safe and well. The cause of the fire is unknown, but not thought to be suspicious. |

102 Dwarf Seahorses arrived, in a poor state of health, following seizure by HM Customs & Excise at Stanstead Airport. 10 of them have not survived, but the remainder are now doing well. They are currently housed in an off-show aquarium, and will remain at the zoo permanently. |

A baby Rothschild's Giraffe was born just before Christmas, and is now venturing out into the reserves. She is the second calf of this endangered species to be born at Woburn within a year. |

Two Black Rhino calves have been born in less than a month. The first, a female, was born just before Christmas, and the second, a male, arrived just two weeks later. |
