Depart: Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust

7 Bali Starlings, bred at Durrell Wildlife, have moved to Bali, where they will join 13 other European-bred birds in a local breeding centre. This is to strengthen the local breeding stock to provide birds for future reintroductions to the wild. Existing reintroduction attempts have so far failed due to poachers for the illegal pet trade targeting the new arrivals. The wild population is now down to less than 10. |

Five Aldabran Giant Tortoises called Gordon, Flo, Albert, Harold and Ken have arrived. At 3 years old they are very young for their species, which can live to 150, and consequently quite small too; adults can grow to over a metre in length. |

Two 4-year-old Asiatic Lionesses called Kiburi and Kumari have arrived from Rotterdam Zoo, as part of the European breeding programme for this highly endangered species, with only a few hundred left in the wild. |

Two 5-year-old female Stingrays, sisters, have arrived from Weston Seaquarium in the hope that they will breed with the resident male Gamma. The species is native to the Amazon river, and these will share their tank with other South American species. |

A Brazilian wandering spider, Phoneutria Nigriventer, has arrived following its discovery in a Coventry warehouse. The species is highly aggressive, and one of the most venomous in the world. |

A total of 9 Greater Flamingo chicks have hatched in the last few weeks, the largest number the Zoo has ever had in a single year, and bringing the flock size to 38. Two of the older ones are being hand-reared after being abandoned by their parents. |

A baby Western Lowland Gorilla has been born to parents Tamba and Kouillou. This is Tamba's 5th baby, and the 131st for Howletts and Port Lympne. |
