A pair of Howler Monkeys, called Greeb and Wing have arrived. It is hoped that they might act as a form of burglar alarm, due to the loud screams they produce when disturbed or upset. |

Four young Kleinmann's Tortoises have arrived from Chester Zoo, and a further four are due from Bristol., all as part of a European Breeding programme. Marwell will ultimately retain a breeding pair, and the rest will be passed on to oher zoos. |

Two Crowned Crane chicks, Barney and Betty, born to parents Fred and Wilma. Only 5 other zoos in Europe have bred this species. |

SpongeBob the Bolivian Squirrel Monkey is to move to Battersea Zoo, where he will join a breeding group of 5 females. The move is necessary because he has been rejected by the other Squirrel Monkeys following his return from theft in July. Although he was only gone for 3 days, the other 9 monkeys would not accept him back, and he has to be moved for his own safety. |

Sohan the male Asiatic Lion has moved to Ostrava Zoo in the Czech Republic, to start a new breeding group for this highly endangered species. He was born in October 2003 at Paignton Zoo |

Mwamba, a young male Asiatic Lion, has arrived from Twycross Zoo. He will join Indu, the sister of Sohan who has just left for Ostrava Zoo. |

Three Toco Toucan chicks have hatched, making the fourth time the zoo has bred these, the largest of the Toucan family. |

Wolf Wood enclosure officially opened, and is now home to four Canadian Timber Wolves. The enclosure features a wooden walkway for visitors leading to a sheltered viewing platform. |

Four extremely rare White Lion cubs have been born: 1 male and 3 females. Called Casper, Kiara, Lara, and Toto, they are the first White Lions to be born in the UK. |

The lemur garden of the Monkey Jungle exhibit is now open. This offers visitors the opportunity to walk among ring-tailed and red ruffed lemurs in a naturalistic setting. Two new female ring-tailed lemurs also arrived from Twycross Zoo to join the existing group of 2 males and 2 females. |

Two young Gorillas, Kivu and Kiondo, both 4 years old, have arrived from Stuttgart Zoo. An older male, Kumbuka, has also arrived, from La Boissiere Du Dore Zoo near Nantes, France. They are all currently undergoing a 6-month quarantine period, but will still be on show to visitors. They will then be gradually introduced to each other and to the zoo's other gorillas. |

Asato the Gorilla has now moved to Zoo Parc de Beauval, St. Aignan, France, to form a new breeding group with three of the zoo's four females. |
Death: Howletts: The Aspinall Wild Animal Experience

The magnificent male silverback Gorilla, Bitam, has sadly passed away from heart failure. He was one of the original Gorillas that began the breeding programme at Howletts, having arrived in August 1972 at about 1 year old. He has since sired 22 offspring. |
