Yoda, a six year old male Red Panda has arrived from Blackpool Zoo to join the existing (seven year old) female Shu Fang, as part of the international breeding programme for this endangered species. |

A baby Black and Gold Howler Monkey has been born, to mother Valerie. It will not be possible to determine the baby's sex until it as weaned. |

A pair of Agile Gibbons, known as `Kings of the Swingers', have arrived. Duana, the 7-year-old female came from Fota Wildlife Park in Cork, Ireland and Samuel the 11-year-old male came from Twycross Zoo. It is hoped they will become an active part of the European breeding programme. |

A baby Aye Aye called Raz (short for Razafindraniatsimaniry!) has been born. He is being hand-reared by keepers and doing well, but will not be weaned and returned to his mother on show in Twilight World for several months. This strange-looking nocturnal primate species is endangered in its native Madagascar due to habitat loss and hunting. |

A new pair of King Colobus Monkeys has been formed, from new arrivals `Ebony' and `Bert'. Both about 3 years old, they have come from Marwell and Paignton zoos to form an important new breeding pair for the European breeding programme, for which there are only 30 animals in 7 collections throughout Europe. The species as a whole is classed as `Near Threatened', with numbers dropping in the wild due to habitat loss and hunting. |

Sabu, the 13-year-old male Asiatic Lion has sadly died from a viral infection, despite the best efforts of vets and staff to treat him. His partner, Akela, is in good health, but is being kept under observation for signs of similar infection. |

A female Amur Leopard cub called Kiska has been born, to parents Ascha and Akin. This species is one of the rarest big cats in the world, with less than 35 remaining in the wild, so the birth is very good news for the European breeding programme. |

Rosa the Elephant has sadly been put to sleep as a result of rapid worsening of her condition; she has been suffering serious health problems since the birth of her son Jambo in 2004. |

A female Von der Decken's Hornbill has arrived from Germany. She should be joined in a few weeks by a male from Edinburgh Zoo to form a new breeding pair. |

A male Asian One-Horned Rhinoceros has been born to mother Beluki. This is the second of this rare and endangered species to be born at the zoo in less than a year! |
