Birth: Colchester Zoo

Three Cheetah cubs born to parents Uria and Bruno, the first to be born at the zoo. The cubs have since been diagnosed with the genetic condition, Carpal Vulgaris, which results in inward or outward deviation of the forelimbs. This can be mild, but can cause problems with walking or seriously affect the mobility of the animal. |

Female Amur Leopard, Milena, has arrived from Marwell Zoo, to join existing male Dende, as part of the European Breeding Programme for this critically endangered species. |

Female Amur (Siberian) Tiger called Malyshka arrived from Chelyabinsk Zoo in Russia, to join breeding male Mischa. |

Four orphaned baby Dormice have arrived from Kent for specialist care. Their mother was killed by a cat. Paignton Zoo is part of a national breeding and release programme for the Common or Hazel Dormouse. The four may spend the winter at the zoo, or may be passed on to private breeders. |

A Brazilian Salmon Pink Birdeater Spider, called `Mildred', has arrived, together with a group of Domino Beetles (about 2in long and black with white spots, hence their common name). |

A baby male Reticulated Giraffe has been born, the first for mother Savannah and the eighth for the Park. |

A colony of 154 Partula Snails has arrived, to go on show in 2007. There are (or were) nearly 100 different species of Partula Snail, but 60 have become extinct in the wild in the last 10 years. Marwell's colony is of one of the extinct species and represents half the world population - the other half is at Whipsnade. |

Sooty the Goeldi's Monkey has given birth to a baby. She has had 5 babies, but the previous ones failed to survive. All is going well with this one, however. |

Eleven African Spurred Tortoises (the 3rd largest species) have arrived from the Netherlands, having been confiscated by the authorities there as illegal pets. |
Arrival: Wales Ape and Monkey Sanctuary

Nakima, a female Chimpanzee, has arrived from Belgium. She will go through her six months' quarantine period in the company of Freddie, one of the sanctuary's existing males. |
