Description

Established in 1987 by the Larkrise Special School, the Larkrise Community Farm moved to its present purpose-built premises, close to the village of West Ashton, near Trowbridge, in 2005. The Farm's main activity is to help and educate students from disadvantaged backgrounds, such as those with learning difficulties or who have been excluded from school, by teaching them how to respect and care for the various animals on the Farm. The Farm handles 35-40 students per week during term time, and they all gain self-esteem and basic life skills through working in the farm environment, both alone and as part of a team. There is also a very popular Saturday club, where local youngsters can join in to help look after the animals - see the Farm's website for details how to join the waiting list - and in the summer holidays the Splash-Wiltshire charity organises hands-on farm days for youngsters from across the Wiltshire area. Visitors are, however, welcome to come and see what's going on during the normal midweek opening hours.

The Farm has a wide range of farm and other animals, including Cattle, Horses and Ponies, Sheep, Goats, Pigs, Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Chipmunks, Marmosets, Chickens, Geese, Ducks, Turkeys, Guinea Fowl, and Parakeets.
