Description

Dartmoor Otters & Buckfast Butterflies is located next to the South Devon Steam Railway station in Buckfastleigh, Devon, on the southern edge of Dartmoor National Park, and just off the main A38 Exeter - Plymouth road.

The tropical house is home to around 20 species of exotic butterflies and moths, all flying free among a collection of exotic plants, carefully arranged to provide a natural habitat that allows them to live and breed as they would in the wild. Several species of exotic birds also fly free in this area, which also provides a home to terrapins and a colony of leaf-cutter ants.

The Otter Sanctuary is home to three species of otter: Eurasian (the native British otter), Canadian, and Asian Short-Clawed. These are all house in enclosures designed both to give them the best possible conditions, and allow visitors a good view of their activities. This includes glass panels that allow the otters to be viewed swimming underwater.
