Butterfly World was opened in 1983 in the grounds of the Medina Garden Centre, and was then only the fifth butterfly house in the world. It was joined in 1989 by Fountain World with its Italian and Japanese themed gardens, many water features, and Koi Carp ponds. Together, they are now one of the Island's leading tourist attractions, and all under cover.
The butterfly house features hundreds of butterflies flying freely among exotic plants arranged to provide an attractive natural environment. There are usually around 25 species from around the world to be seen at any one time. Free flying exotic finches and Chinese Painted Quail add to the experience.

Continue on Staplers Road towards Wootton Common, bearing left at two forked junctions, and Butterfly and Fountain World will be on the left, about 0.5 mile beyond the second junction.

Take the A3021 south towards Newport and Ryde. Turn left at roundabout onto A3054 towards Wootton (Bridge) and Ryde. After about 0.2 mile turn right onto unclassified road towards Wootton Common. (If you miss this turning, continue into Wootton and turn right at the traffic lights at the top of the High Street. Continue as described below (from Ryde).) In Wootton Common turn right at mini-roundabout onto Staplers Road towards Newport. Butterfly and Fountain World will then be on the right after about a further 0.5 mile.
Take the A3020 south towards and into Newport. As you approach the main roundabout junction with the A3054 to Ryde, do NOT take the cut-off road to the A3054 to Ryde, but continue onto the roundabout and take the first exit to turn left onto the A3054 towards Ryde. Then turn right at the next traffic lights onto Staplers Road, and continue to Butterfly and Fountain World as described above (from Newport).
Take the A3054 east towards and into Newport. Turn right at roundabout to join the A3020 from Cowes, then continue as described above (from Cowes).
Take the A3054 west towards Newport and Cowes, and into Wootton (Bridge). At the top of the High Street, at the traffic lights by the Cedars Public House, turn left towards Staplers and Newport. Butterfly and Fountain World will then be on the right after about a further 1 mile.
Take the A3056 west towards Newport. After passing through Arreton village, and passing Arreton Manor and Craft Village, turn right onto unclassified road towards Wootton Common.
