Description
Birdland is situated in the centre of Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, in the heart of the Cotswolds. Open daily throughout the year (except Christmas Day), Birdland is home to over 500 birds from around the world, displayed in a natural setting among over 150 trees on the banks of the River Windrush. The collection includes flamingos, pelicans, penguins, cranes, storks, parrots, falcons, pheasants, hornbills, toucans, touracos, ibis, and many more. Birdland is home to the only group of King Penguins in England, Wales and Ireland. Penguin feeding time, 2:30pm daily, is an event not to be missed! The birds are housed either in the open, or in one of over 50 aviaries. There is also a walk-through Tropical House, a Desert House, and a Toucan House, that provide homes to the more delicate species.
On most Sundays and Bank Holidays throughout spring and summer, Birdland's collection is supplemented by a display of hawks and owls from the Cotswold Falconry Centre, for viewing at close quarters.
Birdland offers a selection of 4 picnic areas, together with a café that offers a range of meals, snacks and refreshments, and several of smaller kiosks. There is also a children's play area and the site is fully accessible for wheelchair users.
Birdland is actively involved in international breeding programmes, and supports other conservation programmes around the world. The grounds of Birdland itself are also actively managed to encourage local wildlife.
